Overview
Why Take a Sensory Processing Course?
Millions of children and adults have undetected sensory processing problems that hinder learning and impact behavior. Without a detailed understanding of a given sensory system and the ability to assess for a deficit most of these problems will remain hidden. Current and future courses are designed to take the viewer through video-based training on the brain, recognition of behaviors and compensation tactics that indicate a problem, demonstrations on conducting educational assessments, and tactics for sensory development activities.
Earn Continuing Education Units or Professional Development Hours
Continuing education units are offered through the College of Extended Learning at California State University, San Bernardino, which is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Please inquire with the appropriate agencies to ensure that this particular credit is acceptable for your educational purposes. Because the courses are offered as continuing education by an accredited university, professional development hours are honored by most districts. Check with your district to confirm professional development credit or have us contact them for you. Parents, literacy volunteers, and others frequently take our courses to assist as school volunteers or identify a problem in their own children or adult family members.
Course Design
All courses and companion materials are developed with the input of Subject Matter Experts, including occupational therapists, developmental optometrists, vision therapists, psychologists, brain researchers, teachers, and parents. A maximum of learning modalities are incorporated into the courses, including experiential learning experiments, off-line assignments for hands-on application of content, and visual demonstrations that require students to apply what they have learned.
Course Presentations
Our courses and in-service workshops have been taught at universities, public and private schools, libraries, community literacy and business organizations. We’ve presented at state and national conferences on learning disabilities, adult literacy, parent-teacher association, correctional education, developmental optometry, library literacy, and gifted education.
